This interview from 2009 shows Elon Musk calling a reporter a “Huge Douchebag” and “complete idiot” because that reporter didn’t grok Tesla’s long-range plan to produce an affordable mass market electric car. Tesla’s plan all along was to plow profits into building the company towards production of what’s now called the Tesla Model 3.
The accusation is that Tesla is feeding at the government trough. Musk’s response is that their goal is an incredibly hard one to achieve.
